The prime accused held for raping and killing Jisha in Kerala was sent to a 14-day judicial custody on Friday.

The police had on Thursday confirmed that they nabbed the suspect more than one-and-a-half months after the 30-year-old law student brutalised and killed. They also recovered the murder weapon.

There is also reason to believe that the suspect’s name is Amirul Islam, though the press note from the police has not yet confirmed the name, reported The News Minute.

The suspect is a native of Assam and a migrant construction worker. He is one of the labourers who was building Jisha’s new house and had visited the crime scene on the morning of 28 April.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • The man was detained two days ago when he was travelling on the Palakkad-Thissur Highway.

  • The suspect is reportedly being interrogated by police at an undisclosed location, and has apparently confessed to the murder.

  • According to some reports, a black rubber chappal found alongside Jisha’s corpse is suspected to be his. Jisha’s blood stains were reportedly found on the chappal.

  • The man is also suspected to have accompanied Jisha as she visited a photo studio, and had harassed her in the past. The owner of the photo studio also reportedly identified the man.

  • A local newspaper reported that the man was identified by the owner of a footwear store, from which the suspect had purchased a pair of slippers.

According to The News Minute, neighbours of Jisha’s family remain unmoved even after the arrest was made.
