Nearly 200 emails exchanged from 2008 and 2013 between Virendrasinh Tawade, the arrested Sanatan Sanstha member and his absconding colleague Sarang Akolkar, discuss obtaining weapons and creating a weapon-manufacturing unit, reported The Times of India.
This was revealed by the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team which was formed to study the emails and Tawade’s cellphone, the report said.
According to the report, Tawade was questioned about the emails on Sunday, once the CBI was granted custody after his arrest in the murder of Maharashtran rationalist, Narendra Dabholkar.
In one email thread, Tawade and Akolkar discussed procurement of a ‘gavati sahitya’ (country-made revolver) from Madhya Pradesh. Another thread between the two discussed getting a `videshi sahitya’ (foreign-made firearm) from Assam. A third proposed setting up a small-scale unit to manufacture firearms. The money for this unit would be raised through any means, legal or illegal, the mails stated.CBI Official
Tawade had reportedly ambushed two different public functions organised by Dabholkar and socialist Govind Pansare in 2004. Both Dabholkar and Pansare were shot dead in 2013 and 2015 respectively.
Tawade’s colleague, Akolkar has been absconding since the Margao bomb blast in 2009, in which two Sanstha followers were killed.
