Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released a song describing the effects of the government policies implemented by his government in the two years of his governance.

The song begins with a description of clouds and the sunrise, followed by the direct claim that the smoke from the poor man’s kitchen is disappearing.

At a macro level, the results have once again showed that the media can move mountains, but with one caveat: you need an average-to-good product.
Sam Balsara, Chairman and Managing Director of Madison World

Balsara, who was involved in Modi’s 2014 campaign, said this to Livemint after the Prime Minister won the general election two years ago.

The same Livemint article also pointed out that the BJP won the subsequent assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana by riding the Modi wave; termed a ‘tsunami’ by some.

On 16 May, Modi completed two years in office. And as far as the matter of waves receding is concerned, the BJP lost four of the five states which went to polls this year.

Going by Balsara’s comment, the quality of the song will only be decided by the effect it has.

The Modi brand is powerful enough for the song to gain media attention. However, does placing the gas subsidy, and comments against the previous government camouflaged as “barso ka andhera”, draw the desired results?

The Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in 2017 will tell.
