The Informer: Sheena’s School Friend
Five months before she was murdered, Indrani Mukerjea’s daughter Sheena Bora attended a close friend’s wedding in Guwahati and subsequently confided that she was planning to get married to former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea’s son Rahul in the winter of 2012.
The Quint has learnt that this friend of Sheena’s was the very person who informed Mumbai Police that she feared that her friend was missing and possibly murdered. The basis for this fear was that Sheena had stopped communicating after the two of them had met and talked about her life and plans to settle down with Rahul.
The Plans to Marry Rahul & The Tip-Off From Meerut
Sheena is said to have shared some secrets with her friend, who cannot be identified, when the friend and her husband visited her in Mumbai a couple of months before she was killed. Sheena’s friend’s husband lives in Meerut where he works for a sensitive wing of the government.
The Quint learns that the call made to Mumbai Police was traced to Sheena’s friend’s husband. He has since been directed not to discuss the Sheena Bora murder with anyone. Sheena and her friend studied together at Guwahati’s Disneyland School. They were very close till Class X and kept in touch with each other after Sheena moved to Mumbai and enrolled at St Xavier’s College.
After giving considerable thought to the events that led to Sheena’s murder in April 2012, and what Sheena had divulged to them, the husband-wife thought Indrani Mukerjea was driven by the aim to suppress her true relationship with her daughter whom she would pass off socially as her sister.
Sheena’s friend claims that Rahul also wanted to marry Sheena, and was concerned when Sheena disappeared on April 24, 2012. Rahul sought to file a missing person’s report with Khar police station but lost interest as time passed, says Sheena’s friend.
Mikhail Bora’s Role Not Above Scrutiny
When Sheena’s friend visited the Sundarpur house in Guwahati’s Zoo Road where Sheena had lived before she moved to Mumbai, some of Sheena’s friends came away with the thought that Mikhail had acted “funny”, telling them that his sister had moved to the US to pursue higher studies. By that time, Mikhail, whose economic situation was not sound, had purchased a Tata Aria car worth Rs 12 lakh.
While Mikhail has claimed that Indrani wanted to kill him too, a view endorsed by Mumbai Police, his activities cannot be described as above board. Circumstantial evidence suggests that while he received a Rs 15,000 allowance per month from Indrani, he may even have resorted to blackmailing, including the demand that his mother cough up Rs 20-25 crore which would go towards purchasing a property in Bangalore.
