When Bihar School Education Board’s Science stream topper Saurabh Shrestha was told he would have to appear for a re-examination, he threatened to commit suicide.
He voiced this threat to a 15-member panel when they questioned him on the formula for integration.
The panel had interviewed all the toppers individually to ascertain if they indeed deserved the top honour after one of the toppers, Ruby Rai, claimed that Political Science was a subject about “cooking”.
The ranks of Saurabh and another topper were cancelled on Saturday after a re-exam conducted on Friday found that their results were not up to the mark, according to the BSEB Chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh.

The panel, taken aback by Saurabh’s threat, took a short break after which they reconvened to ask him a few more questions and then asked him to leave.
After exiting the exam room, he said that his exams went well and the results would be out very soon for everyone to see.
Ruby Rai, the Arts stream topper did not appear for the re-exam and has to appear before the Board before 11 June, failing which her rank will be cancelled.
