  • The Rajasthan government has not only done away with references to Jawaharlal Nehru from the school History curriculum but has also revised the syllabus to remove a page about the Right to Information (RTI) Act from the class VIII Social Science textbook.

  • The RTI Act was instituted by a nationwide movement led by Aruna Roy and Nikhil De of the National Campaign for People’s Right to Information and they, along with the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS), have written to the Rajasthan Chief Secretary, demanding that the changes be ‘halted’ with immediate effect.

  • The MKSS has filed an RTI application at the Education Department, asking for details of the procedure adopted and the expenditure incurred to restructure school syllabi.
