Uttar Pradesh police have made the first arrest in the murder case o Tanzeel Ahmed, the NIA officer who was killed last week in Bijnor district while returning from a wedding, reports by IBN LIVE. The suspect Ahmed’s relative, and the reported cause seems to be Ahmed’s refusal to pay commission in a property deal.

The murder was planned by the relative and executed by a hitman, according to the police who managed the arrest with the help of local intelligence. Police are hopeful of a second arrest soon.

The NIA had earlier ruled out a terror or political motive behind the murder.

While the UP police had earlier said they might have seen two suspects in the wedding video which Ahmed had attended, that possibility was denied later on.

The incident had taken place on April 3, when Tanzeel Ahmed, earlier posted as an assistant commandant in BSF and on deputation to NIA, was returning to his home in Sahaspur village of Bijnor district from another village in the same district after attending his niece’s wedding.
