After BJP, Congress approached the Election Commission on March 30 seeking the removal of Kolkata Police Chief, Rajeev Kumar, alleging that he carries out “illegal snooping” on political rivals of ruling Trinamool Congress.
BJP had sought the removal of the Kolkata Police Commissioner on March 29 on the same ground. In a memorandum to the Election Commission, Congress said that Kumar was made the Kolkata Police Chief just days before the Assembly polls were announced.
Congress also demanded the removal of District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police of Murshidabad, North and South Parganas, Birbhum and Burdwan, alleging that they are close to the ruling party and, hence they should be shifted from poll-related duties.
It hardly needs to be emphasised that looking into the nature of allegations and their partisan role favouring TMC in the elections cannot be accepted and their continuance at the place of their posting will seriously hamper the conduct of fair and proper pollsThe memorandum said
