Teach a lesson to whom? To the dog she said. Yes, you read that right. The wife of an ex-flight lieutenant allegedly flung across eight 15-day-old puppies from near her house to an empty site across wherein they landed on boulders, killing them almost instantly. The impact was so severe that ‘some of their intestines were out,’ said a resident.

While seven puppies died on the same day due to extreme force, one puppy survived, but succumbed to its injuries the next day.

Case Registered

Residents of Jallahalli West are haunted by the site of Ammu, the dog, digging the site of her puppies, trying to nurse them.

These very enraged residents filed a complaint against Ponnamma with CUPA (Compassion Unlimited Plus Action) on 17 March after which, CUPA filed a complaint against her with the Peenya police.

A case under Section 93 of the Karnataka Police Act (punishment for cruelty to animals) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and IPC Section 429 have been registered.

She reportedly wanted to ‘teach the dog a lesson’ because the dog dared to have her puppies in a drain under Ponnamma’s house gate.

Crucial CCTV footage near Ponnamma’s house has been acquired by the Peenya police. Residents in their complaint expressed how distressed they are by the sight of the mother that wouldn’t stop wailing and trying to ‘wake them up, running around, asking for help,’ writes The Bangalore Mirror.

The accused was arrested and released on bail. We have procured CCTV footage and are putting together evidence. The investigation is on and the chargesheet will be submitted.

If Ponnamma is proved guilty, she could be locked up in jail for up to five years, according to the law, she would also have to pay only Rs 50.

She was arrested on Monday and immediately released on bail.

No Remorse

When reporters and residents questioned the woman’s logic, she allegedly responded by saying achcha nahi laga, fek diya. (I didn’t like them, so I threw them.)

When we asked her how she could kill innocent puppies, and that she had no right to do that, she said she wanted to teach the mother a lesson so that she doesn’t litter or come near her house again.

Refutes Allegations

According to CNN-IBN, the accused Ponnamma has now dismissed the allegations against her, saying she saw two puppies lying dead and left them there.

Can I kill them this way? There were seven pups, two lay dead here, I just saw them and left them there. The other two were taken away by their mother. When the BBMP car came, I put the dead puppies there. These people are irritating me.
Ponnamma, Accused

It has been five days since the death of her eight puppies and Ammu still wanders around the site of her puppies’ graves.
