On 2 March, the self-proclaimed ‘King of Good Times’ Vijay Mallya flew to London via Delhi. He was a ‘special passenger’ aboard the London-bound Jet Airways flight 9W-122 from Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport, reports India Today.

Sources told Mail Today that Mallya was inside T3’s premium lounge for nearly 60 minutes prior to flying out. It is being noted that he took a commercial airline to fly out, instead of one of his private jets.

A senior official said, “Mallya decided to take a commercial flight though he owns two private jets. It could be because if he had flown in a private jet, there would have been fresh controversy.”

He was there for more than an hour. Jet Airways had deployed special staff for Mallya who attended to him. He used boarding gate number 1.

Mallya, accompanied by a female socialite, travelled with eleven bags and had Jet Airways executives assisting him throughout.

Sources said that when he entered Terminal 3, Mallya looked tense. As he was carrying a lot of luggage, the airline had deployed loaders.

At the airport, Mallya and his female companion were served coffee and snacks. A number of people including some airport staffers had queued up to meet Mallya who was clearly the centre of attraction at the lounge. Mallya tried to take a nap in the lounge, but couldn’t, probably because he was tense. He walked very slowly when he was asked to proceed for boarding.

With Jet Airways refusing to come on record, sources said it was unclear whether Customs checked his extra baggage.
