It is not new news that Aamir Khan has been replaced by Amitabh Bachchan as the brand ambassador of the ‘Incredible India’ campaign. Defending the government’s decision, Amitabh Kant, the secretary of Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), said Khan’s remarks on intolerance in the country ‘damaged’ the image of India.
Speaking at the 36th convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Design in Ahmadabad on January 18, Kant shared his views on Khan’s removal as the brand ambassador of the campaign.
Amitabh KantA brand ambassador promotes a brand. People will come to India and tourist flow will increase only if the brand ambassador of ‘Incredible India’ promotes India as incredible India. But if the brand ambassador of India says India is intolerant, he is surely not working as a brand ambassador of India.
He is damaging the brand identity of the country. People will not come to the nation after listening to these words. Ambassador has to promote the brand, not destroy the brand.
Kant also lauded the initiatives launched by the Narendra Modi-led government, especially ‘Start up India’, saying only startups will provide jobs in the future.
