Making a political statement, Mamata Banerjee played host to legendary Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata after the Shiv Sena cancelled his October concert.

The Shiv Sena’s protest against the concert led to the cancellation of an attempted December concert in Delhi as well.

I am very happy today. I have been coming to Kolkata for 30 to 35 years. But this time it feels like I have come back after 50 years. I was so sad and today my sadness ends.

The Shiv Sena, in October 2015, protested against the concert of Ghulam Ali in the light of the increasing exchange of gunfire on Indo-Pak border.

Subsequently, his performance scheduled for December in Delhi was also cancelled.
