The Film and Television Institute of India students have called off their 139-day strike but have announced that the protest against government appointments will continue.
Student representatives said that they will continue protesting the appointment of FTII chairman Gajendra Chauhan and four others in a democratic manner.
They also accused the current government of putting democracy in danger. The students said that the government speaks of development and progress but does not have the patience to talk its people.
The students also alleged that the government tried its best to suppress them with midnight crackdowns and registering cases against protesting FTII students.
“The government has all the tools at its disposal to suppress us and all we have to oppose them is our voice. And we feel privileged to have been that voice of dissent under existing conditions,” they said.
The students also said that now their protest has gone beyond the initial five-point agenda.
