The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill will be discussed in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The Bahratiya Janata Party (BJP) issued a three-line whip to its Rajya Sabha members to attend the proceedings.

The bill, which has been long-standing in the House due to the logjam between the Centre and the Opposition, may see the light of day as the government agreed to two of the three demands made by the Congress party and states.

However, Congress is holding on to the demand of including GST in the Constitution Amendment Bill, much to the Centre’s chagrin.

Despite these hold ups, the government is hopeful of passing the GST and implementing it by 1 April 2017.
