She also added that Bengal was a “corruption-less” state and the opposition’s attempts to malign her party backfired against them.
People of West Bengal have rejected (opposition’s) attempts to mislead them, and their conspiracies. People have ignored the smear campaigns and have voted for us.Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal
Mamata has managed a resounding victory inspite her government being embroiled in several controversies such as the flyover collapse and sting exposes over the last 3 years.
“We will make Bengal better again,” said Mamata at the press conference. Basking in the glory of her victory, she said that the celebrations will continue.
20 May is a day of poriborton (change) for us. It’s the day we were sworn in last time. From tomorrow till 30 May, we’ll have cultural programs and a movement to thank people.Mamata Banerjee
Didi Thanks her People
Crediting her victory to the people of Bengal, Mamata said that she is often asked why she does not smile. She settled the debate by saying that her happiness lies in people’s happiness.
She also said that she has made mistakes in the past, but she always attempts to learn from them. Thanking the Election Commission, she however, was critical of the central police force, saying that they prevented people from casting their votes.
Discussing the transitory nature of politics, she said that she realises that people come and go in the political world, but she is here “to make Bengal the best in the world and have good relations with neighbouring states and development for the down-trodden.”
Her Plan for Bengal
Thanking “Ma, Mati and Manush” in her victory speech, Mamata said her goal will be to take Bengal to a position of power and prosperity.
Mamata also announced her plans ahead. “All elected members of TMC will meet at 12.30 pm tomorrow to elect their leader. We will take oath on 27 May. A session of Assembly will be called before 29 May.”
