Activist Sunitha Krishnan has welcomed the arrest of Bhubaneshwar builder Kalia Sahu by the CBI for filming rapes and circulating the footage on social media.
This is the first arrest made by the CBI since it was instructed to investigate 8 cases of distributing video clips of rapes by the Supreme Court.
In fact, it was only after activist Sunitha Krishnan wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of India that the court took suo moto cognisance of the matter, late last month.
In her letter, Krishnan also demanded that a ‘registry of sex-offenders’, similar to that in the UK and USA be created in India and be made public.
The incident is being hailed in social media as a positive step for Gender Justice in the country.
