Instant messaging service WhatsApp just crossed 800 million monthly active users and the CEO of WhatsApp is clearly happy.
WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum put up a Facebook post revealing that the mobile-based messaging service crossed 800 million monthly active users.
His Facebook post read.
Now serving 800,000,000 monthly active users. Reminder for the press out there: active and registered users are not the same thing.
—Jan Koum, CEO, WhatsApp
Mark Zuckerberg of course liked the post.
Jan Koum’s Facebook post had a hint of sarcasm towards other messaging services that boast about the number of registered users shy away from giving the details on active users.
800 million active users is big number if you compare it to 288 million active users on twitter or 300 million users on Instagram.
WhatsApp has recently enabled voice calling for users on Android app. It has also rolled out a desktop version of its messaging service.
